This phone is built to get you on the road. The T-Mobile Wing has the newest Windows Mobile operating system and strikes a good balance between all out multimedia fun and not so fun, but practical function. The Wing flies into the number two position and lands our “TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award.”
This multimedia phone can play all popular music and video formats and can connect to a Wi-Fi connection. It has nearly a three inch screen and a full QWERTY keyboard for fast texting and email composition.
The Wing is multifunctional and though it looks good and plays entertainment it is also a workhorse that is loaded with the full Microsoft Mobile Office Suite, so you can create, edit and of course view Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.
The few items that kept it from grasping the number one position is that it does not have 3G technology and we would have liked a little better performance with multitasking, maybe a bit more RAM would do the trick. Otherwise, this T-Mobile branded HTC phone is truly an ahead of the crowd multifunctional phone.
Like the iPhone, the Wing has a two megapixel camera; however, unlike the iPhone the Wing can capture video in MPEG-4, Motion JPEG and H.263 format. The camera has an 8x zoom and few other features, but all-in-all has a typical camera for a cell phone.
The Wing also plays music, video and games. The only multimedia feature it is missing is the ability to play FM radio, but it can play streaming radio stations. Unfortunately, the Wing does not support a 3.5mm headphone jack, so the sound quality lacks compared to other phones.
This cell phone includes all basic cell phone features like conference calling, a speakerphone, voice dialing and more. One unique feature in the phone book is that you can save up to twelve phone numbers for one contact. Some other reviewers think the predictive text technology of this phone rivals the iPhone. However, this quad band phone operates on the EDGE network and has not advanced to 3G.
It has excellent text ability; it can send both SMS and MMS messages. The QWERTY keyboard is fairly large and easy to type on and it illuminates for night typing.
The Wing is Wi-Fi enabled and can display full HTML webpages and emails. It can sync with Outlook, supports POP3 and IMAP email and has push email ability. You can also easily set up the Wing to retrieve emails from multiple accounts. It has some really cool features, similar to the iPhone, for example you can go to a webpage directly from a link inside an email message or instantly call a phone number from a number displayed in an email.
It supports popular IM services like Yahoo, MSN, ICQ and AOL. The Wing can also be used as a modem for your laptop. In terms of Internet features and abilities it has every feature we were looking for.
As mentioned above, the Wing is designed to work. It has the newest Windows Mobile operating system, Microsoft Mobile Office Suite, Microsoft's Direct Push technology and connects to Outlook via Exchange Server. With the Wing you can easily edit Microsoft documents with a full QWERTY slide out keyboard and it includes all of the usual PIM features like a calendar. This phone is a highly functional work phone.
The Wing is a bit on the bulky side, at six ounces, but otherwise it has a nice textured feel that makes it easy to hold on to and has a nearly three inch, 65,000 color and 240x320 pixel touch screen. For extra memory it has a microSD expansion slot but we would like to see a little more RAM to make multitasking faster.
This is a handsome, highly functional phone that manages to offer the ability to work and have fun. It feels great in your hand and is loaded with practical features; it is definitely a head turner.
If you are a T-Mobile customer (or want to be) and are looking for a powerful, enjoyable and productive cell phone, the Wing is an excellent choice that is built to satisfy your every mobile need, in and out of the office.
